Michelle Obama Enjoys Girls’ Night Out as Barack Addresses Marital Strain Amid Divorce Rumors

May 17, 2026

A girls’ night out for Michelle Obama is stirring up even more chatter about her marriage to Barack Obama.

The outing arrives just days after the former president acknowledged that Donald Trump’s return to political life has created tensions at home.

After leaving the White House, Obama had anticipated dialing back, concentrating more on family matters. Yet Trump’s presidency drew him back into campaigns, speeches, and public appearances.

In a candid exchange, Barack explained that Michelle has grown weary of how deeply he’s been dragged back into the realm of politics.

“She wants to see her husband ease up and spend more time with her, savoring what remains of our lives,” Obama told The New Yorker. “That does create a real strain at home, and it annoys her.”

Consequently, when Michelle turned up for a girls’ night with her daughter, Sasha, Malia, and a few close friends, the spectacle of her appearance drew attention.

The group headed to the Funke restaurant in Beverly Hills, where paparazzi captured snapshots of the stylish ensemble.

Sasha once again drew eyes to herself alongside her mother, who wore a pale green top paired with distressed jeans that bore a paint-splatter pattern for the family outing.

Her sister Malia, typically opting for a pared-down look, wore a midi dress with floral patterns, thin straps, and ankle boots. Sasha, meanwhile, chose a monochrome denim look.

She donned a long-sleeved denim jacket, teamed with slightly loose jeans and navy flats. As a subtle fashion nod, she left the jacket’s final button undone to reveal a belly piercing.

It isn’t surprising that some eyes lingered on Sasha.

“Sasha is my kind of fierce,” one admirer commented on Backgrid,

Complimenting all three women, another observer noted, “They are all still those girls.”

Yet certain onlookers focused more on how “thin” Michelle appeared, suggesting stress from her recent public moments.

“Did she talk about having to pay again?” one commenter asked, perhaps alluding to Trump’s post of a video featuring her White House experiences.

“She’s looking good by my standards; stress from multiple roles can show up, but she still looks great,” offered another opinion.

Not everyone bought into the rumors. One person quipped, “A reminder that looking thin isn’t a diagnosis, and rumors about relationships based on sightings are almost always unreliable.”

“This isn’t going away,” read a remark attached to a speculative piece claiming Michelle and Barack were “reportedly headed for a divorce.” As of now, there is no evidence of a split or divorce filing by the Obamas.

In a conversation with InStyle last year, Michelle opened up about her eight years as first lady while her husband held the presidency.

She spoke about contending with rumors while representing the nation’s first Black family and described how she transformed after stepping away from the White House in 2017.
