The president threaded his way through the crowd during a routine exit, and the moment suddenly shifted when someone moved to bring him down.
Cameras recorded his slow, deliberate stride as he moved away from the Nassau County arena on Aug. 14. What followed unfolded in a mere instant, but one wrong step could have produced a serious tumble.
The president trailed his security detail, seemingly unaware that something ahead could turn his exit into a clumsy slip.

For Trump, the near-miss touches on something he has been acutely aware of in public: the fear of falling.

“I suppose I could do it. But sooner or later something bad is bound to happen, and it could be just a matter of time,” Trump added.

Scrutiny around Trump’s movements intensified after the White House disclosed his diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency last year. Officials described the condition as manageable and not indicative of a more serious health issue.
