Today, she is stepping into a fresh period of reinvention that even includes a change of name.
At 33, she has decided to distance herself a bit from her family as she promotes her newest record, “Bass Persuades.”
The “Wrecking Ball” singer will now perform under the name Miley, dropping Cyrus from her stage identity.
That change sparked worry among fans that another family feud might be brewing.

Fans questioned how her father, long known as “Mr. Achy Breaky Heart,” would react to the name change.
Billy Ray Cyrus kept silent until Sept. 2, when he posted something that calmed the concerns of fans.
Sharing an old photo of himself with a young Miley and her younger brother Braison Cyrus, Billy Ray offered his candid thoughts on Miley dropping the last name in both her social media posts and the upcoming album.
“Family means more than ever now,” he began. “I always called my little girl Miley. Just … Miley. Just like I always called my little boy Braison.”
He revealed that before he released “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992, he initially went by CYRUS instead of his first name.
