Donald Trump attempted to reshape the historical record, yet his version of events found little support among those present.
The 80-year-old former president made a showy return to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City this week, accompanied by his wife, Melania Trump, and a White House entourage.
He arrived intent on disrupting the gathering of global leaders with a blistering address that championed his brand of political dominance.
Trump delivered a performance replete with drama and vowed to “annihilate” Iran, seen as an adversary he would target decisively.
His swagger remained unshaken as the venomous message drew a hush rather than a round of applause.

At one point, the reception was so chilly that an entire delegation rose and exited as he spoke from the podium.
Nevertheless, Trump departed the summit convinced of victory and promptly began recounting his triumphs to the Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab nations.
He then faced Middle East leaders in person after his General Assembly address.
The Republican figure appeared boastful as he scanned the room, where representatives from Qatar, Jordan, and other nations sat to his left and right.
“I just want to thank everyone for being here, very special. I had a good time delivering a nice speech today,” he told them.
“I’ve actually received very favorable feedback. They gave me high marks. I don’t know what that really means,” Trump added.
Viewers were also left astonished by his interpretation of the outcome.
“Not a single sound came from anyone there. No one applauded. Delegates from Cuba and Iran exited the room. That was the extent of it,” observed one critic, while another noted, “The room was utterly silent.”
A third observer quipped, “He’s so pathetically desperate for validation that he seems to think there are formal scores or ratings.”
“He’s lying—who in their right mind would praise a speech that centers on harming an entire group of people unless they’re his sycophants,” commented a fourth.
Two more witnesses added, “Obviously. That terrible speech did not unite anybody—not even him, just his own reflection. A remarkable display of self-absorbed delusion.”
Yet Trump’s thoughts appeared scattered as he scanned the assembly. “Hello, Mr. Prime Minister. How are you doing?” he asked someone across the room.
“Look at you people,” the president continued. “It’s remarkable that I’ve come to know these individuals, and I’m here largely because I recognize how capable they are; they’re great.”
The reactions from the leaders seated around the table ranged from blank stares to smug little smirks.
Another skeptic scoffed, “They all seem utterly revolted by having to listen to him. ‘You people’ is a remarkably disrespectful way to address heads of state.”
“The look on their faces says it all!!!” added a third observer.
Later, Trump directed a nod toward the media to show his appreciation. “The media has been very respectful. It’s been very, very respectful. We appreciate it,” he stated.
Trump remains at odds with the U.S. press after banning several outlets from the White House due to their less favorable coverage.
CNN, MS Now, and Politico filed suit alleging that the administration violated the First Amendment. The Department of Justice is seeking to keep the credentials of affected reporters from being restored.
