The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards unfolded in Los Angeles on October 30, bringing a mix of trophy moments for some favorites and glittering appearances along the red carpet.
Keke Palmer claimed the Emmy for her program Glam Through The Ages, which earned Outstanding Daytime Short Form Program, marking Palmer’s third triumph in the entertainment industry. The beloved, entirely fearless actress-turned-reality-host Tracee Ellis Ross also secured a major prize, taking home the Outstanding Travel and Adventure Program Emmy for her show Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross. She had previously been nominated five times for her portrayal of Bow on ABC’s blackish but had not, until now, taken home the trophy. Ain’t that something?
It was even sweeter that Tracee celebrated her birthday on Oct. 30, turning the Emmy into a one-of-a-kind gift. The first season of her show followed the actress, daughter of icon Diana Ross, to stunning locations while demonstrating that women can relish the lives they’ve created for themselves without needing a partner to share them. Many viewers saw themselves reflected in the series, and it’s already been renewed for a second season. Go, Tracee!
Another magical moment arrived when the Beyond The Gates actress and veteran entertainer, Tamara Tunie, claimed her first Emmy victory almost 40 years after she first stepped onto daytime television. She thanked her mother, who is now 92, for all the support she has given throughout her career, which includes being the first Black woman to portray a medical examiner on the long-running show Law & Order: SVU.
She joins a rarefied circle of Black women who have earned the Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series trophy. Beyond The Gates marks Tunie’s return to daytime TV after previously appearing on As The World Turns as attorney Jessica Griffin.
Tunie’s Beyond The Gates co-star Ambyr Michelle also walked away with a major honor, Emerging Talent, for her portrayal of Eva, the new girl on the block stirring up delicious drama in Fairmont Crest with bombshell secrets.
Congratulations to all of the winners and our favs!
