Donald Trump may have had a point about there being room for only one star in the family — himself.
When the president speaks, television networks sometimes clear sizable blocks of airtime to air every word of his remarks.
That seems fitting for the 80-year-old who thrives on the spotlight and performs whenever he steps in front of a camera. The same can’t be said for first lady Melania Trump.
Melania’s presence around the White House and beside her husband has been slim for months, despite her eponymous Amazon documentary premiering in January.
Yet, her absence from the limelight has fed rumors of a marital rift.

Some have even speculated about a legally binding contract that would compel her to attend events like the FIFA World Cup alongside him.
Several outlets have tallied Melania’s public appearances, and the count falls short of 50, including skipping this month’s Republican Midterm National Convention and Trump’s trip to Ireland.
So, when reports surfaced that Melania would interrupt her vanishing act to speak with elementary school children, networks anticipated the Trump treatment.
Well, things didn’t unfold exactly as expected.
Melania stood at the podium at Mountain View Elementary School in Ashe County, North Carolina, addressing their rebound from Hurricane Helene and her AI initiatives when her big moment was derailed.
Her remarks about resilience and technology were interrupted as Fox News pivoted to more urgent news.
“All right, we’re pulling away from this,” anchor Harris Faulkner announced. The breaking update concerned “the holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial.”
An ardent Melania supporter vented on X about the interruption.
One user wrote, “Why didn’t Fox run the clip of our First Lady Melania Trump? Harris announced the clip and Fox immediately switched to the Lindsay Clancy clip. For what it’s worth, Fox News, your network will crumble just like Nike.”
Several other social media users argued that the First Lady’s Central European accent and measured tempo didn’t translate well on Tuesday afternoon television.
One person suggested Fox “had to cut away simply to irritate viewers who are tired of pretending she speaks flawless English, while gas, groceries, and everything else cost a fortune.”
Some suspected the footage was cut on purpose because listeners couldn’t understand what she was saying: “What on earth did she even say?”
“The kids probably can’t understand her like the rest of us adults,” commented one viewer. Another added, “Their translating subtitles weren’t working.”
Another opined, “Imagine it cuts to Trump, and Natalie Harp is just in the background.”
Natalie Harp, the president’s blonde aide, has become Trump’s constant travel companion. During his trip to Ireland, rumor mill chatter suggested the 35-year-old was quietly morphing into Melania’s replacement.
The first lady’s senior adviser, Marc Beckman, attempted to dispel the romance rumors on the “Stella News” YouTube program earlier this month.
“They know nothing about the first lady’s private life,” he stated, adding, “They’re all attacking this hardworking, very talented, very intelligent person in Natalie Harp, and they’re obsessed with the gossip surrounding this first family.”
Yet, the abrupt cutaway is merely one of Fox’s Melania-related missteps.
In May, “Fox & Friends” misidentified Melania as Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law and wife to his son Eric Trump. Lara was stepping down from Air Force One upon arriving in Beijing when the mix-up occurred.
Melania did not join the diplomatic visit abroad. In fact, her last international trip with her husband was a state visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025.
