Jay-Z Unveils His First New Verse in Half a Decade on Beyoncé’s ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ Remix

Jay-Z returns with fresh verses, linking up with Beyoncé on the remix of her newest track.
Only last month, Beyoncé astonished fans by unveiling the long-hidden favorite “Morning Dew (Donk)” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her sophomore record, B’Day. On August 6, she issued a fresh remix of the cut that adds a brand-new verse performed by her husband, Jay-Z.
The original tune centers on romance and desire, so it makes sense that Beyoncé’s partner lends his voice as well. In his verse, Jay-Z raps, “We know what that night did / Let’s see what that morning do,” and “We just makin’ love, we just gettin’ rich / Y’all keep doin’ that, we keep doin’ this.”
The D’USSÉ mogul keeps the bragging going: “B***h so bad, I had to give her my last name/Up for the cash, came diamond in the tatted rings/If you ain’t ridin’ for the gang, shut the f**k up.”
Over the new bridge sits a sample from Sheck Wes’ 2018 breakout, “Mo Bamba,” marking Jay-Z’s first fresh verse in almost five years. The remix of “Morning Dew (Donk)” also threads in bits of the Isley Brothers’ “Between the Sheets,” a track widely echoed in Notorious B.I.G.’s 1994 hit “Big Poppa.”
Debuting on July 4, the track kicked off a 60-day countdown to Beyoncé’s upcoming birthday, a timeline that also lines up with a forthcoming reissue of B’Day. In a press release, the release was described as “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to celebrate the forthcoming epic birthday of B’DAY.”
“Morning Dew (Donk) Remix” arrived not long after Beyoncé joined Jay-Z as a surprise guest at one of his Yankee Stadium shows in New York. During the surprise set, she sang Mary J. Blige’s portion on “Can’t Knock the Hustle” before treating the crowd to a preview of “Love on Top.”
The BeyHive remains hungry for Act III, the much-anticipated finale of her three-act project, expected to follow Renaissance (2022) and Cowboy Carter (2024). This fresh remix by Bey and Jay fuels optimism that additional new music is on the horizon.
