Philadelphia Eagles standout Saquon Barkley has just set a new record for NFL pay, securing a landmark two-year extension that makes him the league’s wealthiest running back in history, a milestone that spurred his fiancée Anna Congdon to toast the news on social media.
The team confirmed the deal on March 4, revealing that Barkley and Philadelphia agreed to a two-year pact totaling $41.2 million in new money, per NFL Network. The arrangement guarantees $36 million—an all-time high for a running back in a contract of three years or fewer—with another $15 million available through incentives.
Barkley’s career arc has been extraordinary from the outset.

Since inking a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles in free agency last March after six seasons with the Giants, he proceeded to post his finest campaign to date.
The 28-year-old compiled a league-leading 2,005 rushing yards on 345 attempts, adding 13 rushing touchdowns. He also carved out a new all-time rushing record for combined regular season and postseason with 2,504 yards, eclipsing Terrell Davis.
Those accomplishments earned him Offensive Player of the Year honors, an All-Pro selection, and a Pro Bowl appearance in 2024. The former first-round pick capped off a historic season by capturing his first Super Bowl championship with Philadelphia on February 9, coinciding with his 28th birthday, as Barkley and the Eagles overwhelmed the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans.
The Bronx-born star announced the development on Instagram, posting, “Overflow! Grateful for the Eagles Organization, grateful for my teammates, grateful for the incredible fans in Philly. Fly Eagles Fly.”
Congdon chimed in with her own comment, exuberantly typing “Let Jesus cook!” accompanied by heart and prayer-hand emojis.

Congdon also amplified her excitement by reposting a photo of Barkley embracing his agent, Edward Berry of CAA, on the sideline.
Yet, as Congdon celebrated the enormous payday, a variety of social-media responses offered more skeptical or contrasting takes.
Throughout Barkley’s ascent, Congdon and their two children—daughter Jada Clare, 6, and son Saquon Barkley Jr., 2—have stood by him, even taking the field with him at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans during the February Super Bowl festivities.
As word of Barkley’s substantial contract extension circulated, readers of the New York Post wasted no time voicing their views on what this could mean for their relationship.
One commenter bluntly quipped, “Saquon, you’d better get a prenup ready.”
Another wrote, “I’m certain of two things: Anna is thrilled, and, in time, she’ll turn those tens of millions into hundreds of millions.”
A third commented, “Will she keep saying ‘Let Jesus Cook’ when long-lost relatives and fake friends start appearing, begging for a handout?”
The remarks did not stop there either, with another tweet suggesting, “I guess that means the same everywhere: we don’t need a prenup.”
Their relationship has previously attracted scrutiny, especially after resurfaced controversial posts from Congdon’s teenage years. The tweets, dating from 2012–2013 when Congdon was roughly 13, included racial slurs and other inappropriate remarks. The stories first drew attention in 2018, leading Congdon to purge much of her Twitter history prior to 2015.
Congdon, now 26, has remained a steady presence throughout Barkley’s NFL journey. She recently marked his NFC Championship win with an Instagram caption, “If I could wrap my arms around this memory, I would…”
As Barkley persists in making NFL history through record-setting play and now a groundbreaking contract, attention on his personal life is unlikely to fade soon. Whether the relationship endures the unsolicited commentary from social media remains to be seen, but one fact is clear: Barkley’s finances, like his rushing totals, have ascended to heights never seen before.
