President Donald Trump has a knack for humiliating himself and shaming his own staff all within the same scene.
As it stands, no clip from the White House featuring the octogenarian is complete without those in his employ slipping into a self-congratulatory monologue.
Trump intentionally put a member of his administration on the spot in the most unexpected fashion, once again demonstrating that his ego matters more to him than anything else.
During a livestreamed executive order signing in the Oval Office on June 22, the president began his remarks by introducing the people gathered for the session.
He then invited several government officials to say a few words on his behalf.
About seven minutes into the livestream, Trump called on the U.S. national cyber director Sean Cairncross to speak, presumably about the country’s cybersecurity.
Cairncross, aged 51, chose to begin by praising his boss.

He told Trump, “Thank you, sir. You continue to be the most forward‑leaning president in innovation in American history.”
The MAGA stalwart seemed unsatisfied with that degree of flattery. The MAGA spokesperson quickly interrupted the longtime Republican operative to bluntly ask, “Is that all?”
The room erupted in laughter before Trump pivoted to Cairncross to deliver one of his characteristic firm handshakes.
Cairncross pressed on with his excessive adulation, while Trump lounged in his chair, nodding at intervals.
The awkward interaction concluded with Trump declaring, “You’ve done a great job.”
Many watching did not share the praise. Trump cutting off a fellow official to question his allegiance sparked a flurry of online debate.
“How is this real life? Beyond embarrassing,” commented one X user in response to the clip going viral.
A second observer noted, “Ouch… that heavy handshake looked awkward.”
“Imagine watching this senile old man. These people have no shame at all,” posted another Trump critic. One commenter simply wrote, “Disgusting.”
The vitriol toward Trump only intensified when someone quipped, “He doesn’t even know who they are, he turns the wrong way. The guy can’t find his words, yet he keeps trying to flatter the crowd.”
“End these colossal kiss‑ass contests within the administration and actually accomplish something for the country. Surely these clowns aren’t just fooling around, or are they this subservient as to have zero dignity?” wondered one commenter.
Watching him listen to subordinates praise him as the nation watches has become a regular feature of his second term.
So too, his habit of interrupting others while they speak.
Besides frequently interrupting his own team, the president often cuts in when reporters press him on difficult issues, frequently responding with insults.
Trump famously told Bloomberg White House correspondent Catherine Lucey, “quiet, piggy,” in November 2025 when asked about unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files.
More recently, Trump threw a temper tantrum in the middle of a June 2026 interview with “Meet the Press” anchor Kristen Welker. He labeled the media “crooked” and walked off the set in a huff.
There are times when the president inadvertently disrupts his own speeches by wandering off topic or getting distracted by someone or something within his line of sight.
While addressing guests at a Rose Garden event in May, Trump paused mid-sentence and looked up at the sky above the White House, convinced he spotted an unmanned aircraft.
“Uh-oh. I thought that was a drone. They come in many shapes nowadays. They can be quite destructive, as you might have heard,” an unfocused Trump remarked.
Now that he has just entered his eighties, Trump’s public appearances will continue to be scrutinized, as observers wonder whether his increasingly abrasive behavior signals that age is catching up with him.
