President Donald Trump endured one of the most significant defeats of his political career, and his usual backers are reacting with frustration.
Trump, 80, urged his followers to turn out in the midterms as if his own name were on the ballot.
That call to mobilize failed to swing the results for Republicans on Election Day. Democrats rode a Blue Wave to seize control of both chambers of Congress. While the loss in the House was anticipated by many, the Senate flip surprised Beltway commentators.

The Democrats also unexpectedly won key gubernatorial races in typically red states like Texas, Ohio, and Georgia.
Trump tried to get ahead of the left-leaning midterm tsunami. Before news organizations even announced the final results, the MAGA chief shifted the blame to the failed GOP candidates.

Trump insisted he would have won the election by a landslide if his name had been on the ballot. However, his pre-election actions undercut that claim on Nov. 3.
The president used his waning political capital to prop up embattled Republicans. He traveled across the country before the election to rally support for his chosen Senate hopefuls.
His GOP contenders, including Ken Paxton of Texas, Mike Rogers of Michigan, Darline Graham of South Carolina, and Jon Husted of Ohio, all went down in defeat.
As his base wallowed in the fact that Republicans endured a disastrous election night, Trump offered a snarky offer to the Blue Wave.
“I’m going to become a political pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these candidates won and lost!” he wrote on Truth Social around 20 minutes before midnight.
Trump’s self-centered messages usually placate his right-wing following. But he couldn’t contain the anger directed at him from his core MAGA base.
Screenshots of his posts exposed an increasingly irate MAGA movement after he tried to pin the GOP’s losses on unsuccessful candidates. But the blame-shifting only backfired.
“The reason isn’t them. It’s you. You f—k us!” exclaimed a furious Truth Social commenter, according to a Threads post.
Another response read, “This is Truth Social right now. MAGA is dead.”
The president’s supporters were also fed up with his repeated losses, given high gas prices and the rising cost of living.
Another wrote, “This is pathetic. [The GOP candidates] would have won if you and Republicans kept the promises you made and didn’t flip and suck [off] Israel.”
The AP Voter Poll revealed around three-quarters of respondents said they felt “angry” or “dissatisfied” about the country’s current trajectory. About two-thirds of voters blamed Trump’s policies for worsening economic conditions in America.
Issues such as the economy, the state of democracy, affordability, and government corruption heavily swayed the midterm electorate to vote against Trump and the GOP’s agenda.
The vitriol aimed at Trump didn’t stay on his home court of Truth Social as his followers began turning on him.
“How you gonna own a whole social media platform and still get dragged on it?” one poster sarcastically wondered. Truth Social is also where he shared his meltdown about candidates running in the election.
“It’s going to get worse. Natalie is going to have to hide his iPad. The base he has left after tonight will be out for his blood,” one person predicted.
Trump and his GOP allies are licking their wounds after the midterm thrashing.
The defeat leaves him a lame-duck president facing an opposition-controlled Congress as a surge of Democratic lawmakers head to Washington.
Trump is still running with his narrative. He believes the ballot would have been different if his name were on it.
One day after the midterms, he told the press, “If I was on the ballot, we would have won. But you couldn’t transfer that love. It was such love at those rallies. We weren’t able to transfer that love to candidates.” “He basically called them loser,” laughed one social media user.
